An
Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife (EKZNW) honorary officer is a member of the
public who volunteers to work for the betterment of the environment.
Any person over the age of 18 years, who is permanently
resident in South Africa,
may apply for appointment as an Honorary Officer. Those younger
than 18, who wish to join, should enrol as Junior Honorary Officers.
Typically, an Honorary Officer is used in the following areas: tourism,
education / information, communication, professional services, marketing and
projects. Every group is unique in both focus and
type of work undertaken.
The vast skills and different professions of the various
Honorary Officers provide EKZNW with a treasure trove to help run and maintain conservation
in the province. The most
important qualification one can have is enthusiasm and a willingness to get
involved.
The main purpose of the Honorary Officer is to support
the aims of the EKZNW. Primarily, this involves an endorsement of the
philosophy contained in the concept of conservation. Conservation is the
management of human use of the biosphere, so that it may yield the greatest
sustained benefit to present generations, while maintaining its potential to
meet the needs and aspirations of future generations.
-
Love for and
dedication to nature, the parks and conservation is a prerequisite.
- You can only
be an Honorary Officer in the area in which you live; we can direct you to
the nearest group.
- The group will
guide you through the application process, and then you will be required
to attend at an induction course. Afterwards there is probation period of
six months.
It’s not for money, not for fame
It’s not for any personal gain
It’s just for the love of nature
To make a difference where you can
It’s just to give up of thy self
That is something you can’t buy with wealth.
It’s not for medals worn with pride
It’s just for the feeling deep inside
It’s the reward deep in your heart
It’s feeling you have been a part
Of helping others far and near
That is what makes us volunteer.
